Wanderlust

Kicking off 2014 with a really incredible new find. I came to the Wild Beasts party late, only really keying in on their brand of warbling, weird, and altogether brilliant indie rock with 2011's Smother. Since then, I've pledged to keep up with the group's subsequent releases and if "Wanderlust," the first cut from their new record Present Tense, is any indication, 2014 is going to be a banner year for this English quartet. Simmering with a creepy bass twinge while electronic swaths of shimmering squalls tumble over lead singer Hayden Thorpe's inimitable croon, "Wanderlust" churns and burns like no other rock anthem you'll here this year. Few times, if ever in your life, will you hear a man with a perfect glissando whisper sweetly "Don't mistake me for someone who gives a fuck." It's bizarre. It's gripping. It's making us want the record immediately. Check out the song and the video below.
